This includes objections that invoke religious beliefs in general terms, but upon further scrutiny, appeal to other factors. In our experience, the reasons appealed to by some evangelicals for refusing vaccinations are not, strictly speaking, religious, but personal, philosophical, or political. Such a claim might be motivated by the belief that their constitutionally protected rights are being infringed upon and that their religious sentiments are sufficient grounds for refusal. In this type of situation, they would claim the requirements violate their religious beliefs and seek formal religious exemptions. If faced with such a mandate, some Christians will likely consider objecting to vaccination requirements on religious grounds. ![]() Employers must grant the religious accommodation request so long as doing so does not pose an “undue burden” to the employer, either economic or non-economic. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination on the basis of federally protected classes, including religion, and provides that applicable employers must provide a religious accommodation to an employee who holds a “sincerely held religious belief, practice, or observance” against a workplace requirement. Reasons for refusal are wide-ranging, with some based on credible concerns and others being much more subjective.Ĭurrently in the United States, it is legally permissible for employers to require COVID-19 vaccinations so long as there are medical and religious accommodations available in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Some may feel concern or anger at being told how they must handle important and personal medical decisions. They may feel the policy unnecessarily overreaching or discriminatory, or perhaps presumptuous and hasty. ![]() Unvaccinated employees may have any number of personal responses to a policy of vaccine mandates. We would like to bring to the reader’s attention our perspective and experience on these important issues as they navigate these difficult questions. Many Christians are considering the ethics and wisdom of these situations for the first time, fielding advice and anecdotes from a variety of sources. ![]() (It should be noted that some versions of these requirements do allow for individuals to forgo the vaccine in exchange for submitting to routine COVID-19 testing.)Īs an ethicist and attorney practicing religious liberty law, we have engaged in dozens of conversations over the past few weeks regarding vaccination mandates, as well as religious exemptions. These requirements dictate that all employees, whatever their personal reservations might be, must be vaccinated by a specified date or else face repercussions ranging from required masking, testing, and isolation to different assignments to formal termination. Flagging vaccination rates over the summer of 2021 combined with a sudden surge of the COVID-19 delta variant in recent weeks have prompted many businesses and organizations, and even some state and federal government entities, to implement vaccination requirements for employees. ![]()

To determine the stronghold level the HQ has to be exactly the value for this level (rounded down). Walls can only be repaired up to the max level of the current stronghold level.Īttacking the HQ can lead to the stronghold level being reduced as they are directly connected. The impact of Valor has a minimum value of 20% and a maximum value of 150%.Ī stronghold's wall work just like the walls in any other village, but dukes and barons can only repair, not construct them. Leaving or joining a tribe does not have an affect on Valor. It is calculated based on the tribe/player points. The Valor calculation affects the attacker's strength and is calculated when a command is sent from or to a stronghold. Strongholds use a new system called "Valor".Īttacks from or to a stronghold use valor, which works similar to the "morale" system, even if the world configuration does not use this setting. If the resources to build it up again are not provided in time it will be removed from the map. Strongholds can only be destroyed (see below), not conquered. When attacking a stronghold only the walls and HQ can be targeted by siege equipment.PlayerCoinReward is the number of coins that a player will receive, based on the amount of villages he owns and the total amount of villages in his tribe.Īs a result, it is possible that in some circumstances you will not receive any gold coins from destroying a stronghold!Īttacks on stronghold work mostly like attacks on normal villages but there are three important differences: PlayerCoinReward = ROUND( TotalCoinReward * AmountOwnVillages / TotalAmountTribeVillages) TotalCoinReward is the total number of coins that will be distributed in your tribe. TotalCoinReward = AmountHostileVillages * StrongholdLevel / 10 The number of coins your tribe will receive is determined by the following formulas: An additional, temporary +100% recruitment speed boost, for your tribe's stronghold, when an enemy stronghold is reduced by one or more levels. The amount of coins depends on the amount of villages the enemy tribe has and the level of the stronghold that was attacked. Reducing the level of an enemy stronghold will reward the tribe with: A 100% boost to unit recruitment times, compared to normal villages. These resources can potentially be looted if the world settings allow for it. Significantly more farm space then normal villages.Strongholds have the following, permanent benefits: But this church does not provide a radius and only counts for the stronghold itself. Strongholds always have a "first church", even when churches are disabled on the world. Except of the wall and the headquarters they cannot be damaged and only the wall can be repaired. The buildings inside a stronghold depend on the level of the stronghold. The upgrade/build costs for each new level are connected to the amount of villages the tribe owns. The same applies if the level of a stronghold is reduced. Once an upgrade is finished all buildings in the stronghold are set to the new levels (see below). These upgrades require resources (just like constructing the stronghold) but these upgrades can be done at any time and don't need to be finished within a specific timeframe. But to make it even stronger it can be upgraded to a total of 10 levels. Once the stronghold has reached level 1 it is ready to be used. Any attacks arriving at a construction site will automatically turn into a visit and return to the village the attack came from. The time until which a construction site needs to be completed is 72 hours on a world with a speed of "1" (36 hours on a world with speed "2" accordingly). If the necessary resources are not delivered in time the construction site will disappear from the map and all send resources are lost. Resources can only be sent to a stronghold but not sent back from it. All tribe members can send resources from their villages to the stronghold to help construct it. In this state the stronghold doesn't have any function, but it needs resources. The construction site is established instantly and visible on the map. Dukes can use the Stronghold screen to set up the construction site on a grass tile. ![]() ![]() ![]() They probably even have a favorite plane they want to pilot one day. But if you have any stability needs, you’d be better off with Saucony’s £70 GRID Omni 3 – which, incidentally, is Saucony’s nearest shoe to the old GRID Web, in its protective, easy-fitting way. The new Web is a fraction more stable than the Trigon. ![]() The Trigon doesn’t have 3D GRID, though, so the Web may prove more durable – but you may not think it’s worth the extra money. The 3D Web now has a very similar fit and feel to the medium-density GRID Trigon, which is an excellent cushioned shoe for £10 less. The expanded Grid provides more cushioning than the internal Grid of the previous shoe. The most obvious difference is the change to visible 3D Grid. In other words, ignore the name, this is an all-new shoe. It also has a completely different midsole. The Grid Type A5 will be available at The Runner’s Gait in the 3rd quarter of this year in a new colour way.Evaluation We were big fans of the original Grid Web, so it’s interesting that the new 3D Grid Web is softer, narrower and less stable than the original shoe. Thanks again to Ruth from Royal Sporting House for arranging for this shoe trial, I’ve really enjoyed using them. Don’t be intimidated by the A5’s categorisation as a “racer”, runners should definitely give this shoe a a try. This shoe will be especially popular with the triathletes thanks to its transition-minded features and seamless upper. It is built for speed, but doesn’t do this at the expense of comfort for the athlete. The Grid Type A5 is a great option for speed work and racing. However, none of this takes away from the performance of the shoe. The toe box is somewhat roomier than other shoes in its class. Runners will be surprised by the comfort of the A5. It isn’t going to be your first choice for long runs, but Saucony’s Grid cushioning does provide a very comfortable ride for such a lightweight pair of shoes. Another thing to note is that while the upper of the A5 does lock the foot in place well, it’s minimal design does mean that your foot will not receive as much support, so be prepared! Once that is out of the way, the A5 is a real joy to run in. If you are using a shoe with a larger heel drop, you may feel some tightness in your calves initially as your body adapts to the A5. Add that to the close-go-ground feel of this low profile racing flat and what you get is a responsive, lightweight shoe ready to take you to the races! ![]() The A5 has a 4mm heel-to-toe drop, which is now standard for Saucony’s performance range. When you pull these shoes on, you just want to run fast. Even carries a nice message for your competitors! The tongue also has elastic straps on each side to keep it firmly in the centre, no matter how much running you do. If you perspire like a waterfall, these prevent your shoes from resembling a fish tank by the end of your race and reduces the incidence of forehead slapping when you accidentally throw water on your shoes as you race through the aid stations. Another thoughtful design feature carried over from the A4 is the drainage holes in the sole of the shoe. The finger loops at the heel ensure ease of entry, especially for those athletes looking to get these shoes on in a hurry. No socks? No problem! Quick entry features The absence of stitching in the upper makes this shoe very triathlete-friendly. On the contrary, the breathable mesh upper with new FlexFilm bonded overlays was extremely comfortable and held my foot in place firmly. Having said that, that isn’t to say that my foot was sliding all over the place in them. In terms of fit, the A5 isn’t as snug as some other racing flats I’ve tried on. But that’s sort of where the similarities end. At 155g, the A5 is the same weight as my current racing flat, the Lunarspider R. I usually wear a men’s US8 for all my running shoes, but I went up half a size for the A5. This season, the Grid Type A5 retains the outsole and midsole design from the A4, but with an upper that utilizes its new Flexfilm technology, has managed to cut even more weight off. Lightweight and responsive, Saucony had a very understated but very good racing flat on its hands. ![]() We had the Grid Type A4 in our store last season and it was a big hit. The key-triggering Megas would simply have 11 output lines between them running into my PWM-generating Mega. If I'm messing with timers, then I've decided I'm probably best off using another standalone Mega for generating the PWM, especially as my MIDI-decoding code works perfectly. Raising the frequency to 31kHz by setting the timer prescaler to 1 works very well for eliminating this hum. At the default Mega 2560 PWM frequency of 490Hz, the solenoid is very audible. I've tried this with an individual solenoid, and it works very well - sort of. When a solenoid needs to go down, the duty cycle goes to 100% for a split second before going back to 40% to hold it in. My plan is to PWM the "PWM control MOSFETS" at around 40% duty cycle when no solenoids are being triggered. Now that I have my explanation of my setup complete, here's where stuff gets more difficult. This is working beautifully, ignoring the absurd power consumption and solenoid heating. How does this setup work? I'm using 3 Arduino Megas to control the individual notes (using only 2 would work in terms of pins, but I'm using 3 for wiring purposes). They are all reading serial data off the same data line and triggering notes accordingly - currently all the PWM MOSFET gates are just pulled high, effectively bypassing them. These are actually in groups of 8.Ĩ8 keys/8 per group = 11 groups of PWM control = 5 and a half driver boards. Of course, this schematic is only showing a 4-channel setup. I've designed and ordered 15x (!!!)(I can't make any changes now) of a 16-solenoid driver PCB, and each half of this driver board (groups of 8 solenoid driver circuits) has another MOSFET controlling the overall power, like so: Of course, it would be fairly impractical to generate and control 88 PWM channels, so I'm going to PWM them in groups. ![]() Continuously feeding them 12V also results in a large amount of heating after just a minute of being held in they get intolerably hot. They stay down with just 4V (therefore just over 400mA of current). However, once they are down, they don't need nearly as much power to stay in. Solenoids are special because they need a lot of power to pull in: in my case, my solenoids draw 1.3A 12V each. I've given some extensive background on the project that's not particularly necessary to the specific technical challenge.Īnyway, I'm converting a reed organ (pump organ) to be MIDI-controlled with 88 solenoids, one under every key.
